UK Credit Cards: Pre-paid Credit Cards
Pre-paid Credit Cards. Pre-paid "credit cards" can, in one sense, hardly be considered a credit card, since you have already paid for the available balance in advance. Nonetheless, a pre-paid card, or in some cases pre-paid Visa vouchers, are an excellent way to purchase goods for a number of reasons. Firstly, for anyone who has difficulty in obtaining a regular credit card, a pre-paid credit card can be a good choice, and provide an opportunity to more easily purchase goods and services online, for example. Secondly, if you're travelling abroad, then a pre-paid card is also a good idea, and reduces the risk of identity-theft problems, should your card be stolen for any reason. Thirdly, for those trying to stick to a strict budget, or for parents trying to instill good credit card habits in their children, then a pre-paid credit card is also a great idea.
In fact, whether you enjoy good credit or not, a pre-paid card can offer lots of benefits, and is an ideal card to use for shopping online, where you may not want to use your main credit card or bank debit card.
3V Vouchers provide an entirely new way to shop online, without needing to use your credit card or debit card. 3V Vouchers are disposable, prepaid VISA numbers that can be purchased by anyone who is aged 16 or over, with use of a mobile phone and an email address, and can be used to shop online, via mail order or over the telephone, just as you would do using a normal credit card. There are several obvious advantages to using this type of service, but most especially security, since 3V Vouchers negate the need for you to use your actual credit card or debit card.
The cash plus prepaid Gold MasterCard is a prepaid, personalised, Chip and PIN MasterCard card. Much like prepaid anything else - mobile phone or phone card, for example - the cash plus card is a payment card that works in similar way; you first need to put money on to the card before you are able to use it. Therefore it's different to both a debit card and a credit card, since it is neither linked to a bank account nor do you pay for your transactions at a later date. However, you can still use your cash plus prepaid card anywhere that accepts MasterCard - which is at over one million cash machines and millions of retail outlets worldwide.
The Post Office Travel Money Card is one of the safest and simplest methods of taking your money abroad. There is no purchase fee and your Travel Money Card can be used in millions of shops and restaurants worldwide. In fact, your Post Office money card can be used anywhere that Visa Electron is accepted, including any ATM (i.e. cash machine) displaying the Visa logo worldwide. The card is, essentially, a pre-paid Visa card, but you can purchase the card in either euros, US dollars, or sterling. Secure, flexible, and convenient, the Post Office Travel Money Card is a great way to take control of your holiday currency.
Tuxedo offer the Tuxedo MasterCard Prepaid Card service, which is provided by Tuxedo MoneyPlus Limited; the actual prepaid card is issued by Newcastle Building Society. Ideal for those with poor credit, or even no credit record, no bank account is required, there are no credit checks, and you can use the Tuxedo MasterCard Prepaid Card at millions of locations worldwide, including ATM's. The Tuxedo Prepaid Card is a simple and secure way to manage your money and, unlike with a debit or credit card, you can only spend the amount of money you wish to load onto the card, which means no credit card interest to pay and no late fees or other unexpected credit card bills.
Virgin Prepaid Mastercard, offered by Virgin Money, is an ideal card to have if you don't want - or need - a credit card, or if you are not able to obtain one because your credit rating is not high enough, or because you don't have a bank account, for example. The card can be used just as if it were a credit card, and can be used anywhere that MasterCard is accepted (including ATM machines). The difference between the Virgin prepaid card and a credit card is you load it up with money before you shop, instead of paying off your balance later, keeping both your budget intact and saving you interest charges at the same time.
