With a minimum £15,000 credit limit you can guess that the Royal Bank of Scotland Black Credit Card is not your average, everyday credit card. However, although there are, of course, a few criteria, you don't need to be super-rich to apply for this exclusive RBS credit card. Although, the RBS Black Card is generally available only to UK residents aged 25 and older, and who enjoy an annual income of £75,000 or more, if your income happens to be below this, your application may still be accepted so long as RBS are happy you can accommodate the £15,000 credit limit. Online credit card application

As some may note, given that Royal Bank of Scotland and NatWest are part of the same company, their credit card offers are very similar; this is also true of the RBS Black Credit Card, which is essentially the same as the NatWest Black Credit Card, which we list; however, if you already have an account with one or other of the two banks, then you may prefer to apply for their respective card. However, the RBS Black Card does not appear to offer a similar points programme to the NatWest Black Card, which provides the opportunity to earn NatWest YourPoints.

First of all, if you have already noticed what appears, at first glance, to be an enormously high APR, then this is somewhat misleading. You will need to review the details on the RBS website for a detailed explanation of why it seems this way, but the actual annual interest rate hovers somewhere around that of other cards. However, between the annual card fee and the Consumer Credit Act regulations - which require finance companies to use a £1,500 'notional' credit limit when quoting APR rates - lies the reason the APR appears to be so high.

As you might expect, given its "exclusivity factor," the criteria for approval of the Royal Bank of Scotland Black Credit Card are somewhat higher than those for a regular credit card; also, along with the card, comes an annual card fee (currently around £250); nonetheless, when you consider that Black cardholders enjoy a wide selection of benefits - worth well over £1,000 per year - the annual fee increasingly feels like quite a good deal, and in fact it is.

Check your credit score With a minimum of £15,000 credit, detailed monthly statements, and an annual summary statement listing your entire year's spending by category, the RBS Black Card already offers a lot more than many credit cards might do. But, of course, there is much more; here are just some of the other benefits that you can take advantage of as a RBS Black Card holder:

Personal Assistance With the personal assistant service, whether you're looking for elusive concert tickets or seats to the top restaurants in New York, consider it done. You can even use the RBS Personal Assistance service to help plan weddings or other special occasions - as well as being able to recommend and locate all manner of other services.

Comprehensive Travel Insurance Travel insurance cover that is not only for you, but also for your partner and dependent children aged under 25 - covered whether or not they are travelling with you. Up to three additional cardholders will also be covered by Royal Bank of Scotland.

Airport Lounge Access As a RBS Black Card holder, with Priority Pass you can enjoy all the benefits of executive airport lounge access at 500 executive airport lounges around the world.

Exclusive Offers Of course, no exclusive credit card would be complete without exclusive offers, and so you also get to enjoy private gallery viewings together with a variety of special hotel deals. Not least, cardholders also get to enjoy invitation-only shopping evenings at a variety of leading designer stores.

As you might expect, there are many other benefits too, including other travel services, free roadside assistance in the UK and Europe, home emergency cover and, of course, card and purchase protection, providing you with peace of mind in the event that your card is stolen or that an expensive purchase turns sour, for example.

The application process for the RBS Black Credit Card is a simple-enough affair, and takes just a few minutes to complete; however, having your bank details and income details to hand will speed things up a little. A number of online applications for this credit card will be approved or declined within just a minute or two, but others may take a few days; nonetheless, once your application has been approved, then you should receive your card within a week or two.
