Post Office Foreign Currency Service
With the Post Office's Foreign Currency service you can order up to £2,500 of foreign currency, or American Express Travellers Cheques, either online or by telephone up to five working days in advance. The Foreign Currency service is highly commendable, and with just a couple of exceptions, each involving travellers cheques, buying foreign currency from the Post Office is commission-free. Also, if you happen to need the currency sooner than five days out, then for orders placed before 3pm on any working day, your currency may well be delivered next-day.  Currently, the only two exceptions to commission-free currency are as follows (but always check the Post Office website for any changes): * if you are buying American Express Travellers Cheques in British pounds, in which case commission applies (minimum £3, maximum £50) * if you are selling travellers cheques in British pounds, and you don't have a receipt showing that you purchased the travellers cheques from the Post Office All orders over £500, and also any currency order delivered to a Post Office branch are delivered free of charge; a small delivery fee applies for home delivery of orders less than £500. However, if you are collecting your currency order from a Post Office branch, then do remember to bring a valid passport or photocard driving licence as proof of identification, otherwise you may not be given the currency. The Post Office Foreign Currency Service probably ranks amongst the easiest and cheapest to use, and the Post Office will also buy back any foreign currency notes (i.e. does not necessarily include coins) and Travellers Cheques commission-free.
